A homoeopathic paediatrician, a counselling expert and a freelance writer are a few words to describe my profession. My sole aim is to put forth practical piece of information that guides every one right in the direction, blending the medicos to a layman with a simple gesture to make the medical things a little less convoluted and comprehendible.
Thanks
At every step of growth, children need help of their parents and teachers to make them comfortable with the changes in education. As they grow up they need more attention and as a parent you have to answer all their questions as half knowledge can create confusion in their minds and make them loose their morale at times. Although going to the upper class or to high school looks like a one step ahead in career development, in practicality the children are not necessarily equipped to handle the pressures and demands of the new pattern and hence they are to be prepared slowly mentally so that they won’t get complex once the school starts rolling. At such times, restraint, consistency and patience should be shown by the parent to understand the upheavals going in the mind of your teenage child.
By following the simple steps mentioned below you can gear up your child for a confident entry in the high school:
Be reasonable with your expectations
Every parent knows the weaknesses and plus points of his child. Prior to high school, his scorings in different subjects in the middle school already has displayed the inclination of the child’s mind and his strong points as well as weak areas. When your child is going into high school, you need to make him aware about these points in his academic scorings and should emphasize how he should give more attention to the subjects in which he has been not doing well enough. But while doing that let your child know that you are with him in all his endeavor and will try to find solutions for his problems either personally or by taking help of some expert (tutor). Since the responsibility of studies would be more from high school, you need to set a particular time table for his studies so that he can score more. For this always set a time which is best suitable for him and when he is more relaxed!
Extracurricular activities and recreation
Just because he needs to study more, you should not stop his extracurricular activities. Since along with academics, the other activities too are nowadays, included as a part of high school syllabus, you should encourage your child to participate in such activities. This will help him to learn new things and who knows some secret talent in him can come to the fore during these days.
Prepare your child for facing success and failures
Success and failure are the two phases which every student has to face. Some students can be academically bright and some can be good in other activities. But it’s very rare that a child is good in every activity. So when your child is starting for high school education make him understand the importance of success and failure and the way it should be approached so that when he comes across such incidences he will be able to face them with more guts and courage.
Along with all this you should always keep a watch on your child when he starts going to high school and try to understand his response by observation. Assure him that at every step you are there to support him.
