Oral contraceptive is a widely applied tool to prevent unwanted pregnancies but often many hesitate to adopt it based on the related misconceptions and delusions. Though medicos try to explain on all the parameters but sometimes a couple fails to conceive it all and keep on following the traditional norms which are not in much favour of the pill use. The content ahead is a glimpse to throw light on necessary details on the above and make every reader well versed on the subject.
How the pills work?
All kinds of oral contraceptives work with the hormonal variation to regulate menstrual cycle. These either work to restrict ovulation, simply if there is no ova then fertilisation is impossible. Also it works to thicken the ovum boundary inhibiting the sperm penetration and thus pregnancy. They have been found useful in cases where female suffered irregular menses, their regular use adjusts the biology so that it begins to function adequately and timely.
Some common myths
The first to mention is the infertility, many advocates that a regular oral contraceptive use can leave one infertile. Delayed conception is seen but infertility is not a side effect. Delays may occur with the body changes adapting to normal and taking time. Further there may be some natural causes like old age, some medical ailment causing the trouble but not the pills.
The second one adopted by many is the irregular use of the pills. It is common to see couples taking leaps in between thinking that this will keep the mechanisms fine but on the contrary it harms. Irregular use forces the body to keep changing every now and then; with the variable dosage leaving issues in dilemma.
The next is the carcinogenic properties of these pills. Many believe that oral contraceptives can cause cancer but it is not true. They rather prevent the cancer of the ovary and the endometrium indeed. The hormonal regulation keeps the functioning accurate and helps combat odds.
How to use oral contraceptives?
Every couple planning to switch over to these pills should first brainstorm each aspect with an expert. If necessary a doctor may ask for a few examinations based on the personal and family history. Initially some minor symptoms in form of nausea, vomiting or palpitation may be seen but they soon fade out with time once the body adjusts to the change. If they keep on troubling and are to an extent restricting ones normal routine then this calls for help and instant stoppage of the pills.
Contraceptives and sexual health
As mentioned above though the functioning of the sexual organs become accurate with contraceptives but health can’t be assured. Chances of infection are much lower in females using condoms as compared to those who adopt these pills. Simply the direct contact of the genitalia facilitates the entry of the infective agent and causes trouble. Viral infections like HIV, HPV can’t be sidelined with the pill use.
The above is a complete synopsis on the common myths and facts to enlighten and guide every coupe to make a perfect choice.
